about

...this is quite a subdued, late-night headphone experience...
...it has that ‘grows on you’ tendency quite a few of these ‘small radar’ albums do these days. - SOUNDBLAB

Unobtrusive and unguarded, Telegraph Hill lays Ellister’s sensitive soul bare on what is, for the most part, a most assiduous halcyon earnest album of brilliantly crafted songs. - MONOLITH COCKTAIL

A mix of 60s technicolor psych, Pink Floyd atmosphere, and early 70s mind expansion, the new album will excite anybody that loves the lilt of light-headedness psychedelics and high-in-the-sky soundscapes. - BACKSEAT MAFIA

With Jack principally recording the record in his home studio his acoustic guitar quietly shines from the Bert Jansch-like ‘Reminder’ to reflectively pretty opener ‘Roots’. - THE STRANGE BREW

“Telegraph Hill” is an esoteric addictive Acid Folkie “Musical Creature” by a most-promising talented man and you’re advised to memorize his name, for the nearby future, it’s Jack Ellister! - TIMEMAZINE

It’s a short album – between them, “Mind Maneuvers” and “Condor” are effectively as long as the other seven tracks put together, and the whole thing is over in under half an hour. But it’s certainly time well spent, and it really doesn’t need to be longer. Unless there’s a sidelong “Condor” sitting in the archives somewhere? - GOLDMINE

Very nice! Fans of Jack Ellister will be happy with this release, although it might end a bit too fast. But you can always put it on again! - ASTRALZONE

The album shows yet another side to this multifaceted artist, and while different from his Fruits de Mer releases, it is no less essential. - BLISS AQUAMARINE

press release:
Jack Ellister is normally associated with the Fruits de Mer
label for which he has made a couple of albums and singles
in classic psychedelic style; rough sounding, energetic and
inspired. Now he is back with an album of mainly acoustic
songs, called ‘Telegraph Hill’ which is his third LP and first
full length for You Are The Cosmos. Originally planned as
EP to bridge the gap between albums, the focus here is on
solitary voice with acoustic guitar, with occasional drums,
percussion, flute, violin, didgeridoo and synthesizers, all
played by Jack Ellister except for the drums. These were
provided by long time collaborators Tomasz Helberg and
Nico Stallmann. Most of the recordings took place in his
homestudio on Telegraph Hill in South East London, using
an Otari 8 track machine, an old Tascam desk and some
outboard gear. At the same studio he’s producing
electronic music as Mytron. A special edition of 100 green
CDr’s in tin boxes was made for the Fruits De Mer 10 year
anniversary show in Glastonbury in May 2018
